TREES

R. Riecke Gernon

Near the house where I grew up
There were many empty lots.
They were not all that bare
But had trees to fill the spots.

The trees were very varied
Some short and some were tall.
But the vision they displayed
Was the beauty one and all.

To see them standing there
Brought just one thing to my mind.
I have to climb these trees
Each and every kind.

Ye, I was a climber
Since I was very young.
I'd climb everything in sight
As long as it had a rung.

To climb a tree to the very top
Was the ultimate climbing test.
To stay up there enjoying the view
Was nothing but the best.

Over the rooftops far and wide
Was a view not had from the ground.
If you've never climbed to the top of a tree
It's a view you've never found.
