Kurt Guenther Kurt's first stories were told to Yum Yum, the family cat, who died a few years after Kurt started talking. The cat was quickly replaced by Kurt's little brother and then sister, and his love of stories continued, including jobs directing a large summer camp and helping kids in trouble create dreams they believed in themselves. These days, the best story time is spent with Kurt's wife of 14 years, Debra, and their kids and collaborators, Kate and Jack, ages 10 and 6. When not telling tales by the fire, Kurt is partner and creative director in a national issues advertising firm called GMMB, part of the Fleishman-Hillard communications company. He has coordinated and contributed to presidential and statewide campaigns and directed advertising on issues like getting health care coverage for kids, encouraging national service and preserving the outdoors. Kurt and his wife are also co-founders of Doingsomething, an all-volunteer network featured in the national media. And he has worked independently in film, video and music and has performed as a jazz tenor saxophonist. Kurt attended Occidental College and Boston University, where he graduated summa cum laude from the School of Public Communication. He and his family live in Seattle, near some of the best camp spots on the planet. You can reach Kurt at kurt@gmmb.com.
